Carmen Pineiro was born and raised in Miami. She completed one year of practicum at Borinquen Behavioral Health Center then graduated with a Masters in Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in 2012. Carmen was hired by Borinquen Health Care Center upon completion of practicum. She went from a student intern, to a Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services (CRCS) counselor, to a licensed mental health counselor to currently the Program Coordinator of the outpatient substance use program, STOPP. Carmen's counseling experience is with individual's suffering from depression, anxiety, substance use, as well as those having relationship issues, and low self -esteem. Her particular area of interest is with the LGBT community and those diagnosed with HIV.
In the therapy room, Carmen's first goal is to connect with the client creating a supportive and comfortable environment where they can freely express themselves. Together, they will set goals for therapy and develop a plan for their sessions. With patience and compassion, clients will become aware of behavior patterns, understand them and decide what else is needed to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
